Schmoker offers some insights for professionals to discuss, but there's little here that's new. Of course, that is his point: we need to stop doing the 'new' and work diligently on what works. He is easy to read and pleasant enough, but I think he doesn't fully explain why schools and teachers perform the way they do. He also doesn't explore the nature of change, so he maps out some promising directions, but doesn't acknowledge the likely hurdles and pitfalls.
