really liked it
bookshelves: fiction, mystery

This is a Virgil Flowers story. Virgil is called in on a murder and a strange suicide that is called murder by the coroner. It develops in to 4 murders. The struggle leads them into an investigation of a strange cult that calls themselves a 'church'. The World of Spirit. Virgil and the local sheriff Lee Coakley (a divorced, single mom of 3 boys) develop the romantic interest. The story is bloody, vulgar and is not my favorite type of subject matter. Virgil Flowers stories seem to be that way to me. A little too much blood and guts so to speak. But in Sanford's usual style, it peaks your interest and keeps you going quickly through it.
