When you can't put a book down, it must have something to it. I don't often read YA fiction, but I'm on a post-apocalyptic kick, so I thought I'd check it out and wasn't disappointed. Yes, there could have been a little more character development (I didn't really care whether anyone lived or died), and the protagonist was annoying at times (especially since it's first person). However, when you consider the kind of life Mary has led and the massive breakdown in what little life that was, it makes her irrational goals and decisions a little more understandable. Sure, there are some story lines left dangling, but this isn't a genre known for its answers, and the next two books answer some.
