really liked it

This is a collection of reflections, essays, and speeches given by the Dalai Lama over a number of years which cover everything from his selection as the 14th Dalai Lama and his childhood to Buddhist views on the environment and humanity as a whole. It also goes into quite a bit of depth regarding Tibetan cultural and political history which I found to be very clearly explained and informative. The book has been compiled by a French editor who has spent a lot of time with the Dalai Lama; her notes filled in a lot of the historical context of the speeches. I would recommend this book for anyone who wants to understand the ongoing political tensions between China and the Tibetan people. It's not your typical story-like memoir or autobiography and therefore can be a bit dry at times, but the information is worth it.
