Enna Burning (The Books of Bayern, #2)
Mar 02, 2011
I have been reading a lot of Shannon Hale recently to keep up with my daughters. Their grandmother actually gave them several of these books about 4 years ago...they did not like them then (too young and the books seemed too dark and scary), but now they really enjoyed them. I agree with Abby that Enna's story is the most interesting...somehow her character feels most complex and most real. Good books for young teens/pre=teens who want a book with adventure and magic and a little romance (not too graphic). The magics in the series...in this one fire speaking and in others speaking to air, water, or trees and most dangerous of all "peoplespeaking" are very intriguing with the possibilities and the burdens they offer...no light and easy magic here but magic with a price and with responsibility. Each book has it's share of death and darkness, but they balance sober with lightheartedness very well...not too bleak.
