** spoiler alert ** Somewhat difficult to follow at first -- three main characters Piet Hoffmann, Ewerts Grens, and Erik Wilson and the first few chapters jump around from one to another. Ewerts is still in mourning for his wife, but that story unfolds slowly and in very small pieces, but even so he is not a sympathetic character, rather unlikeable. Piet is the criminal, yet with his warm family you really want to root for him. Very soon the story is between Ewerts and Piet. What I found a little hard to believe was that if there were higher ups in the criminal justice system that looked the other way or got criminal who were on the inside off on charges, why didn't they let their fellow detectives and prosecutors know? Maybe that is just the Swedish system. Or does it happen here too. I really liked this read -- very inventive and suspenseful. I read and read all night. I would definitely read more books by these authors.
