really liked it

Wow, that was quite the fantastic read. For the 2nd book in the series, Dragon Hunters pretty much can be read as a standalone as Marc Turner now takes you to the other end of the world featuring all new characters in the same world in the same time setting. So given the parallelity, there are some hints to the broader events but overall, this can be read alone

Arent Dragons totally back in. And this book doesnt disappoint wrt that. Again, featuring a wide cast of characters ranging from a cynical, pragmatic warrior-magician (Guardians), a dysfunctional pair of brother-sister spy-priests (Chameleons), a power hungry ruler coming to the end of her turn, an even more power hungry usurper, a justice seeking tragedy laden family to a jaded city watchman with his surly reluctant assistants hunting down supernatural assassin(s), Dragon Hunters takes some time to settle in given the cast and plot juggling. There are so many balls in the air and yet this reads a bit easier than the first book since they all take place in the same location.

Also what really makes this book move is the fact that there is a definite timescale to the events lending a sense of urgency to the proceedings. Once the book hits 50%, its an absolutely giddy rush after that. The action is non-stop as the stakes get higher and the betrayals keep coming fast even as the body count ratchets up and no one is truly safe. The action is very meticulously plotted and choreographed and the swordplay scenes are fantastically well done. Marc Turner has truly hit his stride with this book and it will be interesting to see if he manages to marry book 1 and book 2 in book 3 and also introduce the Emperor who has been a bit like Thanos, the big bad in the background
