Kat Bateson and her two younger siblings are sent to Rookskill Castle in the midst of German bombings on London in WWII. Although safe from the dangers of war-ravaged London, the children soon learn there is far more sinister danger at work in the Scottish highlands.

This book has spies, a gothic and mysterious castle, magic, Nazis, ghosts and a strong female lead. This book literally has everything you could ever want in a middle grade thriller. The characters are well-developed and thoughtful, flawed and smart. An overall great read.
