really liked it

This book left me melancholy, for while Plainsong was about finding family and new beginnings, this book was more about relationships ending. As a sequel to Plainsong, we continue on the journey of Victoria and the McPheron brothers, but a host of other characters are introduced. The family of Luther and Betty just about broke my heart, for there would be no happy ending for any of them, and unfortunately I have known similar families. Real life can be hard, and this book doesn't shy away from showing that. The writing remains strong, with a welcome plain spokenness, that is superior to other authors who feel they need to overwrite a story.
