Long, boring and way too much narrative for my liking. Add on top of that that nothing happened. The book covers probably 60 years but nothing that exciting happens throughout the book. All of the major events require some kind of long narrative by the narrator about what is right and what is wrong and yada, yada, yada. Add on top of that the nearly 600 pages that this book takes up and your in for a real snoozer that fails to captivate...I'm not a classic guy, and this is definitely not my type of book. I can get into these types of books if they're shorter but this was way too long for me to enjoy. I did enjoy the beginning of the book as we learn the story of Adam and Cathy and how they move to the Salinas valley. The storyline really was interesting, but all of the narrative drivel was too much and it made this book tought to bear. Not into classics? Don't touch this book.
