Size 12 Is Not Fat (Heather Wells, #1)

Written in classic Meg Cabot style, you either love it or hate it.
This is sort of like a cozy mystery for people like me who WANT to like cozy mysteries, but just.... don't.
Heather Wells is a former pop star (think Britney and Christina) who lost not only her recording contract - for insisting she be allowed to write her own music (the horror!) but ALSO her fiancé (a male pop star - think Justin Timberlake.) Oh yeah, and she's also put on a little weight, leaving her the weight of the average American woman. To add insult to injury, her mother also ran off with all of the money Heather earned as a teen pop sensation.
Now, the pop has-been is living in a spare room in the home of her ex-fiancé's black sheep of a brother (the incredibly hot P.I. Cooper Cartwright) while working in a college dorm. If she can just make it through her 6month probationary period she'll get free tuition and can finally make something of her life, now that her music career is over.
However, when girls in her dorm begin to turn up dead, Heather wonders not only if she'll pass her 6 month probationary job period, but live to see it!
I'm a fan of most (though not all) of Meg Cabot's work, and this is one of her most well written books. Heather is smarter than most of Meg's YA characters. (Which I would hope, given Heather is 28!) The plot is solid with red herrings and clues sprinkled throughout. The running joke of "Don't I know you?" both annoys the reader and makes them laugh, though I guarantee Heather is far more annoyed than we are!
I definitely recommend this book for a light murder suspense read. I can't speak for all the books in this series, but I DID accidentally read the final book YEARS ago and really enjoyed it. I have no doubt the rest of the series is just as entertaining!
Audio Narrator: The same woman who read the "Fallen" series by Lauren Kate. I kind of hate her formal speech style, but not enough to quit the audio and opt for the ebook version.

I got distracted by the NetGalley hole I dug myself into... so I have yet to finish. I loved the last book in this series, which I read first - not realizing it was the last in the series - and loved it! I definitely will go back and start this one again. Once my NetGalley queue is cleared. Someday. Hopefully soon.... (10 books left to read at the moment, and I'm being VERY good about not even LOOKING at new books.)
