liked it

Pretty conventional epic fantasy, despite having a little Eastern flavor mixed in to the standard medieval Euro setting. Characters, plot, tone, etc. all run of the mill, but well written and well paced. This was the kind of novel teenage me would have loved. Middle-aged me found it pleasant but unexceptional.

MadProfessah I guess I'm still a teenager because I loved this book! Probably my favorite fantasy novel read in 2015 (tied with the sequel, THE PROVIDENCE OF FIRE). Staveley is close to my favorite fantasy novelist now, maybe a smidgen behind Brent Weeks.

I did generally enjoy reading it. I'd make out with it but no second base :)
