I really don't think I like the whole star rating thing because sometimes a star rating just doesn't explain enough. I know I gave this book only three stars, but I think it may deserve maybe a 3.5 or even a 4...

This book reminded me of Simon Holts "The Devouring" series in the descriptions and because of what happened in the story.

This book is about a group of teenangers who have special talents and who can exist, if you will, during the midnight hour. The midnight hour is an hour of time (starting at midnight) where everything completely freezes. Everything, including the rain, fire, people, etc...everything, except for these teens. And, some scary creatures...

And that is where it reminds me of The Devouring series...the descriptions of the creatures and the creepy stuff is done well...the teens that can still move around in the midnight hour...and they each have a special talent that they can only do during the midnight hour.

Usually the creatures leave the teens alone (they stay out of each others ways). But when the new girl, Jessica, arrives things change. Rex, one of the midnighters, knows right away that Jessica is a midnighter also, although she has no idea and doesn't even know what one is. And soon, all the teens realize that Jessica is the cause of all the creatures coming out and coming after them...well, coming after Jessica and if they happen to be around her, then after them too...

This book has action, suspense, creepiness and the start of some romance. I really did like this book but it is hard to please me and I was hoping for a little more conflict/drama between the humans. I am sure the series will get better!

Jay You shouldn't compare it with "The Devoring" series because this book came in 2005 and The devoring came in 2009 or 2010
