This was not as cool or original as I wanted it to be. But (as with many a popular teen novel) I couldn't put it down despite its flaws. The writing was kind of blah, the themes well-worn, and the plot predictable--but darn it all, I can't get enough. I want to read the sequel!

(And one side note: Did anyone else feel like Westerfeld way overused the word "purchase"?)

Carrie I don't particularly remember the word purchase, but I did spend a lot of time thinking he was repeating himself for the fourth time and we could just GET ON IT WITH IT ALREADY.

Destinee Sutton All the purchases were in reference to the hoverboardss, e.g. "She couldn't gain purchase," "She lost her purchase," etc. etc. etc.

Boy would I have cut that book down a good hundred pages if I'd been his editor.
