I took a blank jigsaw puzzle & photocopied it. Then I pasted that copy slightly out-of-sync over the original & cut out the pieces. Then I designed a type of interchangeable puzzle piece w/ 2 'male' sides & 2 'female' sides. Then I made a bunch of these by cutting them out of the cardboard that the jigsaw puzzle was packaged in (still showing traces of the puzzle) & wrote words on them that I liked the sound of - words such as: pedicab, froth, needlefish, scummy, hard, skewness, macuran, utile, vitta, superabound, gumma.. Then I arranged these pieces on the jigsaw puzzle pages in various ways: w/ only a few disconnected words, w/ a whole gridlock of words, w/ mostly the backs of the pieces showing, arranged w/ no puzzle background, arranged w/ a ripped puzzle background, etc.. I cd've made it much more complicated than I did but I'm delighted that Crag Hill published it in this form. Even though I have a huge body of work that some might call 'visual' or 'concrete' 'poetry', very little of it is published.
