really liked it
bookshelves: fiction

"What a complex foamy mixture a couple is. Even if the relationship shatters and ends, it continues to act in secret pathways, it doesn’t die, it doesn’t want to die."

The centerpiece of this story is one hellish summer day on which the protagonist locks herself in her apartment with her two young children and her dog and proceeds to loose her mind because her husband has left her. It makes for a harrowing read.

Ferrante understands the art of the page turner making this a quick read even though most of the action is of the emotional kind. And along the way she offers some provocative tales on the meaning of love, marriage and relationships.

Also contains one of the dumbest dogs I have ever encountered in literature.
