it was ok

This novel started out very strong. At first it was a solid gothic ghost story, well-paced with carefully measured tension mounting with each page. Unfortunately the climax of the story (where the protagonist faces the ancient evil that has menaced her family for generations) was resolved in less than two pages. The author seriously treated it like a minor plot point and resolved it as an afterthought. It makes me wonder if the real focus of the novel was supposed to be the boring-ass romance between Halcyon and her dead father's lawyer. I don't really recommend this one, but if you want you can read it. Just ignore the last chapter and make up your own (likely vastly superior) ending.
