It was definitely interesting to base the premise of this contemporary erotic romance on the real life events surrounding Duke University student by day and porn star by night Belle Knox. Yet, instead of having her being outed and harassed by the frats at her college as well as a multitude of crazies at large, the author had her student character Darcy's history professor blackmailing her into having a sexual relationship under the threat of being outed. If she would accept, he would give her a letter of recommendation to get her into the law school of her dreams.

This could have turned out to be really interesting. The issue of intelligent, educated, middle-class, young women turning to sex work under the debilitating weight of academic tuition debt is ripe for exploration. Belle Knox is certainly not the only student to have done it though she may be the highest profile in the mainstream media. It would have also been really interesting to go all the way and turn Professor Keaton into the cold snake that he had the potential to be rather than the wishy washy kitten hiding under a tiger pelt that he ended up being. I would have liked Darcy to be a worthy adversary, a woman who is not ashamed of her sexuality and her porn job, and feels empowered rather than victimized by it, and have the two go head to head in a battle of epic proportion before of course consummating the volcanic heat building up between them (this is a romance after all).

What I got instead was a tepid, FSOG inspired romance, complete with a multitude of lip biting, sucking, and licking by the heroine as the hero presents her with a contract for a no strings sexual affair where he will dominate her and she will willingly submit to him. *eye roll* Meanwhile, from the get go, these two are already feeling the lovely-doveys despite the length they both go through to hammer us over the head with the point that THEY MUST NEVER LET THEIR EMOTIONAL WALLS DOWN AGAIN AFTER BEING SO BUTTHURT IN THEIR PAST, NO MATTER THAT THIS TIME, THIS PERSON IS SO...JUST SO...SOMEHOW...DIFFERENT THAN THE REST. Yes, having electric blue eyes that zap you like lasers, and greeting you at the door shirtless every single time so that you drool over his Men's Health Magazine worthy abs sure makes the Professor very different than oh, say, about every single other romance lead out there.

And naturally, we have some contrived and very trivially mentioned traumatic past for each character that supposedly explains why they are the way they are. No, it's not abuse in this case, it's (view spoiler).

Add to that a wheelbarrow full of plot contrivances and plot holes ((view spoiler)

There were not too many editing mistakes except for one of rather epic proportions, and to be fair, it could have been the result of auto-spell-check, Lord knows I have been the victim of it many times.

I’m going to eat your pussy until you’re writing beneath me our sweet Professor purrs to his student Darcy. Maybe now she will learn to hand in her assignments on time?!

If you are looking for a plausible, hot as hell, erotic romance that builds up from a purely no strings attached sexual affair between a sex on the stick jerk you love to hate and a woman determined to do what she needs to get through college, I suggest you try Lynda Chance's The Mistress Mistake. Not that it is a flawless book and Lord knows I have had my fair share of rants against Ms. Chance's other books, but this one in particular was very good and made an unbelievable and frustrating set-up just work.

Thank you. If (view spoiler) is a deal breaker for you, then it definitely would not be a good book for you because there is not even a real apology or grovel period to make up for it.

Hey Sybil, I think it had good potential. I would definitely read another book by this author.
