really liked it
bookshelves: history-alt

Not unlike a series of short stories, What If stirred my imagination by hypothesizing ways that history could have taken dramatic, exciting turns. I liked how the individual authors took plausibility very seriously. Sometimes I even found myself confused, unable to differentiate between fact and fiction--such was the believability of certain counter-factual creations. While the strict chapter-based format doesn't lend itself well to depth or breadth, I would recommend this book to anyone who is casually interested in alt-history without labored attempts at character development.
