Maybe if I hadn't read Kate Morton's House at Riverton before this, I would have given it 4 stars. 3 & 1/2 may be more accurate. I love Margaret Atwood's writing and I liked the way she weaved the pieces of Iris' story together but... I just did not feel enough to care for the characters. And this, coupled with the feeling I thought I knew (and did) what happens (ed) left me just wanting to get to the end since the book was nearly 700 pages. I did like reading about this part of Canada (near Toronto) after WWI, through the Great Depression and WWII
