MacKayla Lane has been through so much since she has come to Ireland to investigate her sister's murder and she is no longer the young naive woman who arrived. She has lived through horrendous experiences, been ostracized from the others at the Abbey and is devastated by her occurrences while in the Silvers. The Sinsar Dubh is exerting its inimical effects on the inhabitants of Dublin while it is attempting to become closer to MacKayla. There are multiple difficulties discerning who are truly allies and who are opponents in the struggle to retake the city and MacKayla must go through a major metamorphosis in her way of thinking before she can achieve her goals. A masterful denouement to the series which has as much of a resolution as is possible within this framework.
