really liked it
bookshelves: coming-of-age, pop-culture, women, tattoos, acting

A lot of these reviews were mixed and rightly so. This novel isn't for everyone. This was my first John Irving novel and let me just say I was taken aback by it. Yes, it sometimes leaned into the melodramatic but aren't we all looking for a little escape when we read? There are at least three plots (almost 4) that involve the main character, Jack, who is dealing with his acting career along with looking for his father, dealing with the deaths of close family members and learning how to accept his life. It's not a masterpiece, but it (to me) was a page turner.
