What a fantastic book! Took me right back to 4th grade when I was the biggest baseball fan in the world. Halberstam has done a wonderful job discussing baseball in the year of 1964---particularly as it related to the Yankees and Cardinals, who would go on to face each other in the World Series. He is able to put all the baseball stuff in context of other things going on in society at the time---especially race relations and even more specifically, the rising tide of black athletes in baseball. It was amazing how many of the old ballplayers I could remember even today all thes eyears later. I couldn't name you more than two or three players today, but I can still remember the guys from the 1960's. Great book.......great trip back in time.
