Stalker: A Romantic Suspense

I received an ARC from the author for an honest review.
I'm not going to rehash the blurb. This book is pretty self-explanatory. It's about a prostitute and a stalker. The concept of this book is intriguing because I can't recall reading a similar plot. So kudos to Ms. Soule for not recycling a passé theme. However, after finishing this book, I feel like some key elements were missing. Here's why: it's narrated first-person by the female MC but her thought process was so convoluted that she just made me confused; her actions and reactions were so OTT and at times unrealistic; she described Chris in such a way that I had to guess his motives myself and figure out who he was (wish we could read his POV); she was naive to the point of being stupid; and the plot and epilogue were rushed.
There were so many ways I thought the story would go but it didn't get there. If those parts were fleshed out a bit more, this book would earn a higher star rating. It didn't really pick up until the hostage scene at the mansion. That's where Ms. Soule's writing shined exceptionally. That's where I got to see the greatness of this author. The details, issues, internal monologues, dialogues, and action all mad these parts amazing!! If the entire book drew these emotions from me I would have given a 5-star review.
For a first book, I think Emma Soule did very well. And based on what I've seen from this book, she will provide us with a lot of entertainment. This may be her first, but I hope to see more so it better not be the last.
