It literally metaphorically pains me that I cannot rate this a 4 or above. Too long, a bit muddled. I missed the easy humor, the intriguing familiar-but-alien-and-OMG-dangerous history of Camorr, the detailed flashbacks with Chains and intricate storytelling.(view spoiler)

Maybe my 2012 Favorites Reread Challenge will leave a more favorable impression of book number two in the Gentleman Bastards series. It has been a while since I've read Red Seas Under Red Skies - my rereads tend to run just to book numero uno, The Lies of Locke Lamora. I hope to start this in mid-February, at the rate of which the reread of the first is going along.
