Another reviewer has mentioned that this is not a 'happily-ever-after' sort of story and that is the truth. Witch Hunt is a harrowing tale of the cruelties of the human condition and what we are capable of wreaking on our fellow man and woman. Even the children are spared no mercy.

However! There is a constant thread of hope and resilience throughout the tale. The Hawthornes have gained and lost so very much over the years, but the one constant in their lives is their faith and practice of the Old Ways. At various times in the story, I found myself connecting with different characters along the way. I cried at their losses, I hoped right along with them for a glimmer of light to break through the darkness, and I exhilarated with then when they rode the freedom of their ways.

I highly recommend this book. Admittedly, it may offend some with more delicate sensibilities, but even if they were willing to press forward and finish the book in its entirety, I most certainly think there is plenty to be gained from this novel. It is a work of fiction, but the implications it presents are frightening in their possibility.
