it was ok
bookshelves: fantasy, listened-on-audio, lgbtq-characters

Listened to this on audio. I really wanted to love it (standalone fairy tale fantasy full of whimsy?), but unfortunately I found myself losing interest pretty quickly. Right away I noticed that there were way WAY too many descriptions of looks: hair, eyes, skin, clothes. We pretty much knew what the characters were all wearing all the time, especially the main character. Is it important to the plot to know that she put on black leggings and a gray shirt?

Anyhow, the pacing in this book really suffered. Way too much hastily packed into the end of the book. There was romance of course, and although it wasn't your usual insta love, it was painfully predictable. I just wanted to stop focusing on that because we KNOW who's going to pair up with who and can we just move on to getting the story squared away? The villain turned out to be pretty dull, and everything was wrapped up too easily.

I did finish this book, but it left me very underwhelmed.
