Since I'm half-way through the next book, I should write something down about this one. *g*

The murder mystery involves an entire family that gets killed in their own beds, with the exception of the nine year old daughter who was sneaking a soda in the middle of the night. Nixie was missed by the methodical and professional murderers, because her friend was over for a sleepover, so a nine year old was found in her bed, just not the right nine year old.

Long story short, Eve has a young witness who's in danger and who has locked onto her psychologically, so Eve ends up taking the child home with her. As you can imagine, Eve and Roarke aren't exactly up for dealing with a child. The child's life, up to this point, was as completely removed from their own experiences as possible. Her childhood (before this) was idyllic. But they both understand death, and what it's like to rebuild your life from the other side. Helping Nixie in some ways helps Eve and Roarke to further deal with their own broken childhoods.
