really liked it
bookshelves: character

Each of the novels in this series becomes grimmer. This novel introduced a character who had been hinted at in the previous two books, and this is where some of my frustration with this novel occurred. It is a bit of the same frustration about Denna in the novels by Patrick Rothfuss, but in both cases I think the frustration is planned by the authors.

There is a lot of tension in this novel, which is set in two times, which reflect, echo and inform each other.

I enjoyed this novel, and really want to see how Scott Lynch can take this story ahead as there are many possibilities opened up (some much grimmer than others, but all seeming to be on the dark side). Happiness is very hard for these characters to achieve.

The highlight is the friendship between Locke and Jean.
