it was amazing

** spoiler alert ** I absolutely loved Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 film adaption of this book (as well as the TV show that aired in 2013), and so I was very excited to read it.

Due to the fact that I watched the movie before reading the book, I came into the story already knowing that Norma Bates was dead and that knowledge allowed me to see things differently than if I'd gone into the story blind. I was able to appreciate the way that Bloch led the reader to believe that she was still alive without ever explicitly saying so. For example, nobody but Norman talks to her and the reader never really gets any details about how she's dressed, looks, etc. as they do with every other character. This isn't noticeable or odd unless you know that she's not really there at all. In some ways, this made the book even more enjoyable for me because it allowed me to appreciate Bloch's writing even more.
