Utterly disappointing. I did not realize that this was a book of loosely linked short stories. I sampled it on my Kindle and was really liking the strong character of Hallie who was one of the original founders of Blackwell. I went ahead and bought the book and then shortly thereafter Hallie's story was done. What frustrated me the most is that Hoffman is a good writer and as soon as I developed a bond with a character, his/her story would end. All the stories took place in Blackwell, one generation after the next. Her ending became very predictable by the 2nd half of the book. The character would either die, run away, or hook up.
