it was amazing
Read in February, 2011

Twelve year old girl Hope's life is turned upside down when her older sister Lizzie becomes an elective mute and is institutionalized after trying to kill herself. Ever since their dad died Hope and Lizzie have relied on each other from a young age. Their mother is a reluctant and unreliable parent at best, who turns tricks to support the family. Throughout the course of this lyrical and heartbreaking narrative readers and Hope discover that the mother is prostituting Lizzie and it’s up to Hope to bring the truth to light to save her sister.

With raw and haunting writing reminiscent of Ellen Hopkins and Elizabeth Scott, Carol Lynch Williams is a promising new YA voice.

I don't even know where to start with this book. This book is my favorite book so far in 2011. When i first saw this book on GoodReads i knew i HAD to read it. I came across this book because i have recently finished another book by this author. This book is 484 pages long, and written in verse. Usually, i don't like books in verse. So i was kinda iffy on reading this book. However, i am so glad i did read this book because this book was amazing, and heartbreaking. When i started this book it really pulled me in. It had a really good opening, and i wanted to know the answer that the main character also wanted to know...why? About a quarter or halfway through the book i had a really good estimated answer to the question why. I wanted to so bad just flip to the end, and look for the answer, but i did not. This book seriously had me crying. I was shedding real tears at some parts in this book. It really hurt me to know that real teenagers go through the stuff the characters go through in this book. I really liked this book because it's realistic. This book tore my heart to shreds, but then stitched it back together again. I would re-read this book over again. It is a very fast and easy read. However, i think there should be a sequel to this book! : )

Chrissy Awesome. I'm kinda scared to read a book in verse, but I plan on starting this one when I finish Delirium, which I'm reading now.
