Barely passable as a science fiction book due to a lack of both details and discussion of impact. I think that the story and characters would probably make a better film. There are some very interesting characters and situations to explore, particularly the schism in the protagonists personality. Overall, the book lacked the philosophical and scientific depths which I have come to expect from my favorite science fiction authors. As far as Frank Herbert is concerned, the is the worst novel of his that I have read.
