I would give this 3.5 stars if I could but I rounded down. The reason I rounded down is because it took me some time to get into the book. I had heard so much about it and had literally no idea what it was about. For the first few chapters I was like, eh, idk if this is really interesting. But then it really picked up and I enjoyed listening to it quite a bit. I guess Larsson is a bit heavy-handed with his anti-violence message, but violence against women sucks so that's ok I guess. The tone of this book is midway between Umberto Eco and Dan Brown--not quite as slow moving as Eco, but not quite as lowest-common-denominator-verging-on-sci-fi as Dan Brown. After reading this, I can see why they are so popular and will eventually be reading the rest of the series.
