liked it

I got through it- it is sort of depressing. The characters were interesting and their dilemmas vivid. Hemingway is an acute observer of psychology- the thoughts and actions seem true, if not flattering to humans. But the lack of hope is a bit self indulgent. The setting is central Spain during their civil war - the Fascists vs. the Communists...a sad look at how war seems so justified, but both sides seem wrong somehow. I have traveled in Central Spain - to many of the cities and towns mentioned- so I found that to be of interest.
