Balthazar (The Alexandria Quartet #2)
Jeffrey Franklin Barken's review
Oct 13, 2015
It takes a while to shake the dreamy nature of the first two books in Durrell's quartet, but the intertwined plots, and deceptions these characters are capable of are steadily thickening--culminating in a thrilling read. The author is a master of suggestion and Balthazar is essentially a scrap book of hypothesis and testimony concerning a web of intricate scandals. The hopelessly romantic writer, Darley is still trying to make sense of all his mysterious interactions and experiences in Alexandria. The book is obviously setting up for a longe, more composed novel that will tie the threads of the web together. I'm eager to embark on the third installment, "Mountolive"
