it was amazing

Terry Pratchett wrote approximately 41 bajillion Discworld novels, and I've read all of them. I believe Shepherd's Crown is one of his finest, and a fitting place to draw a curtain over Discworld. Pratchett died in March of this year, but he left us with an appropriate souvenir. Pratchett's books about Tiffany Aching were always my favorite, and this story is no exception.

If you have read a number of Pratchett's novels--and you should read several of them to get the most from this one--then you'll recognize all the usual characters and the way the story builds to its finale. But this book packs considerably more emotional heft, and you'll probably finish it a little bit heartbroken for the loss it represents.

I'll mourn Terry Pratchett, but I prefer to think that the Discworld carries on. Tiffany Aching, Lord Vetinari, the Librarian, and all the others continue their adventures. The Discworld changes and our world changes. We've simply lost the storyteller who gave us the window to that world. We'll miss Terry Pratchett, and his window into Discworld, but the stories still happen without us watching. I'm grateful for the stories that we got to hear.
