Sort of the "grandmother" of YA fiction, this is a beautifully written book in which nothing happens and I don't give a lick about the main character. Don't be fooled by the feet that are so ever-present in modern YA covers...this book is old, old, old. I can't see a teen of today really taking interest in this book. While some of the themes of first romance ring true--the excitement, feeling as if you don't know how to act on a date, etc--the rest is very much out of touch with the dating experiences of today's teens.

Tracie My thoughts exactly. It's quite quaint.
