it was amazing

Anything written by Sharon Kay Penman is bound to be fantastic and this was no exception. The story of England at the death of King Henry I, who had left the crown to his daughter Maude. England, unwilling to be ruled by a woman, accepted her cousin Stephen as their king instead. The years that follow tear England apart in battles so horrible and bloody it is said that it must be "when Christ and His Saints Slept". This book is full of history, and paves the way for the story of King Henry II and his Queen, Eleanor (which follows in the next book). Fantastic read, especially if you love historical fiction.

Meliann I'll have to read this one for sure because the Pillars tv series actually showed a bit more of the royalty than I remember in the book and I've been wanting to follow up more on that.
