Any collection of short stories contains little pearls as well as tales that don't really stick. This book was purchased by my wife who buys almost anything Neil Gaiman writes, yes she is a fan... I should never have shown her my Sandman collection. And she was right (as usual), Neil's story was definitely one of the little pearls and as a matter of fact he extended the story in The Graveyard Book, which ended also on my to-read list.

My favourites were clearly Neil Gaiman's The Witch's Headstone, Elizabeth Hand's Winter's Wife, Nancy Kress' Stone Man and Orson Scott Card's Stonefather.
