I think I hate genre plot.

This is a story of a girl from the slums who has undeniable magical abilities and the Magician's Guild that trains magic in the rich. I enjoyed it and would like to read sequels examining the social conflict arising from the situation.

However, because of the tyranny of plot, we can't have a small story about a poor girl at a rich school. Instead, it is obvious that the trilogy is going to be about how the girl is the Strongest Magician Of Them All and also the Hero Who Saves The Kingdom. Also it will be about how the Dark Magician With A Secret is really the Good Magician Protecting Everyone from the Evil Foe, with some b.s. explanation for why he had to do everything himself in secret rather than simply work with the other magicians.
