3 1/2.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one. The writing is almost a bit too much but since the POV character is a first person teenage girl writing a sort of journal, it gets away with it.
Eve is very dramatic and it's part of her growth that she learns to accept the people and happenings around her.
The historical setting is well done and it pulled me in.

My problem is with the genre. It's not exactly a romance. She doesn't spend enough time with the love interest. It's more of a coming of age story, something that goes from YA to NA with a slice of life particular to the time period.

As part of a thematic series, it falls short. Miss Pearl is an afterthought, nothing more than a comma in a book report.

Even though there's resolution, the ending didn't feel satisfactory. I would have liked to see a homecoming.

I received a free ebook in exchange for an honest review.
