really liked it

A YA novel about a southern black girl who passes for white in order to fly for the WASPs. I really liked it, and I also liked the fact that the ending isn't all prettily tied up with a bow. I love reading about this time period, so it was fun to read about the experience. The best part is the true experience of how the army was having trouble getting men pilots to fly the B-29 superfortress as it was heavy, cumbersome, and kept crashing when the engines went out. So the army had two women fly it as guinea pigs, unaware that they were flying something semi-safe. They figured if they could get the girls to successfully fly the thing the men would be to ashamed to keep turning it down.

A good read.
