really liked it
bookshelves: large-print, fiction, government-court, mystery, suspense

** spoiler alert ** I really enjoyed the element of trust, or lack of it, that went on throughout the book. It certainly had me guessing right up to the end. I hadn't expected things to get as "ugly" as they did near the end, especially the suicide of Ober. I liked that the end wasn't a happy one where the friends continued as if nothing happened, too. About the one thing though that kept it from being 5 stars was that there was still a little too much whining and arguing between the friends to keep the story going on as long as it did. It could have been shortened down some and I don't think it would have taken away from the overall story. For his first novel, though, I think Meltzer did a great job and I will definitely be reading his other novels. I think this would be 4.5 stars.
