This was an odd story set in the worst parts of Victorian London in the days right before Christmas. Henry Rathbone goes looking for his friend's wayward son Lucien who has joined the underworld of London so that he might satisfy his "basest" needs. Joining with some characters who know this part of London well, Rathbone discovers that Lucien might also now be a murderer, as well as a drug addict and womanizer. His goal is to bring Lucien home by Christmas.
This was kind of weird, I'm not sure that I would recommend it except to fans of Anne Perry.
