Naoki Urasawa's 20th Century Boys, Volume 8: Kenji's Song (20th Century Boys, #8)
** spoiler alert ** In this volume: the ending of the Bloody New Year's Eve; Kyoko's adventures in Friend Land; Hanging Hill. Moments where this volume is particularly brilliant: the sham giant robot (talk about deconstructing an archetype!), Bob Lennon, the evil brainwashing game (complete with bonus level!), and the teru teru bozu. I love how Urasawa pulls together so many different elements--manga fanboy talk, ghost stories, generational nostalgia, rock and roll--and manages to come up with something sublime.
