really liked it

In The Snowy Day, Peter explores all of the wonderful things he can do in the snow. He makes foot prints in the snow, with his feet going out and his feet going in. He makes snow angles, snowmen and climbs up piles of snow, sliding down to the bottom.

The distinct illustrations strike a warm spot in the reader’s heart, making this a memorable book for both children and adults. The buildings and scenery are drawn in an abstract fashion in mostly solid colors. The art can also be described as having elements of naïve art. The pictures are two dimensional, which is characteristic of naïve art.

This book would be suitable for a toddler storytime with a theme about snow. After reading the book, everyone could discuss the fun things that they’ve done in the snow.
