really liked it

I wish I'd not read the long exerpt from this book (that was in Vanity Fair, I think?) before getting to it, because reading it I felt a little cheated, and I liked it less than I would have as a result. Similar to Flynn's Another Bullshit Night in Suck City, this book is deliberately fragmented, which is just the right kind of mirror to perceive the postmodern narrative of terror and torture that Flynn is trying to lay out in a memoir that deals with what it means to be a father and a son in a world where Abu Graibs exist and have become almost mundane in the mind of the public. More a meditation than a book that's trying to arrive somewhere, which makes this feel a little aimless, moreso than Suck City. Still there's a lot to marvel at in each section, in the way different threads evolve and work themselves into knots.
