Great story, suspenseful and engaging…
I have to admit I do not typically read Sci-Fi or alien abduction novels. However, I read ‘Injury’ by Val Tobin and loved it so I decided to give ‘The Experiencers’ a try. I was not disappointed. This is book one in a series and it does end leaving many questions unanswered. Not exactly a cliffhanger ending, but you will need to read book two to finish out the story. Michael Valiant is a complex character, an assassin with a heart. From the very first scene we learn that Michael is struggling with doubts about his assignments. He is supposed to blindly follow 'The Agency’s' directives, but he questions their motives. Ms. Tobin does an excellent job of creating a bad guy you can love because he’s not all bad. Carolyn is good, naive and complex. She is a psychic and a medium but is rarely believed, even by those closest to her. It is difficult to go into the story line without spoilers so I will just say the story is well written and keeps the reader engaged to the very end. The characters are well developed and come across as real people with real problems.

This story is well paced, the suspense keeps the reader engaged and the personal interaction between family and friends helps the reader feel empathy, frustration, sorrow and triumph. Another thing I liked about this story is that the author leaves much to the imagination. She is not overly graphic when it comes to the sex and violence. In my experience, this makes the story more believable and frequently more terrifying. Ms. Tobin masterful leads the reader where she wants you to go then let’s your imagination do the rest. This is a great beginning to the series. I would definitely recommend this book to others, especially those who enjoy a tale about aliens vs. humans and government conspiracies.
