really liked it

The most intense of the Dr. Siri mysteries and the only one told substantially out of order. We read installments of the climax interspersed along with the story that leads to it. Siri and Civilai's comments about Laos are what makes the books so interesting. In this book, they are sent to Cambodia and describe the Killing Fields from the inside. This tag line is used several times, "There's always someone worse off than you; unless you're a Cambodian."

The structure of the book required an overly long and overly expository denouement but that's my only criticism of this informative read.
